Photocrowd

September 14th 2016

How a professional photographer from Oxford is about to celebrate his third year in business at OCFI.

Mike Betts and fellow photographer Liam Bailey have founded an online photo contest community that allows any budding photographer, professional or amateur, to upload their work, take part in a range of sponsored photo contests, and connect with a talented global community. The site currently publishes images from over 35,000 photographers from 160 countries and has recently launched a service to give people their own print sales page. Photocrowd has become a successful tech start-up employing nine people working from OCFI located in the heart of the city.

“We all really like being in an innovation centre. It has a good atmosphere and really does remove any day-to-day office management worries as the Oxford Innovation team are excellent at maintaining efficient and fully serviced offices.”

Mike Betts, Co-founder of Photocrowd

The ability to grow also attracted the Photocrowd team to the centre as they have ambitions to become a company employing 40-50 people in the next five years. As Betts and his team look to realise the full potential of the site, he is keen to underline that he is aspiring to create a company where people enjoy their work and can share in the success of the business through an employee share scheme. He hopes this may attract more developers to leave their London hub for a better work-life balance in Oxfordshire.
